Six-time Champions League winners, Bayern Munich scored in the 90th minute through French winger, Kingsley Coman to avoid a shock last-16 first-leg upset by less fancied RB Salzburg.

The home side opened the scoring through Nigerian-born Austria forward Chukwubuike Adamu, who netted a delightful curling finish into the corner in the 21st minute after an assist from Brenden Aaronson.

Kingsley Coman then broke the heart of the home fans when he crept into the far post in the 90th minute and converted a flick from Thomas Muller to restore parity.

RB Salzburg could have doubled their advantage but another Nigeria-born German forward, Karim Adeyemi’s shot was saved, while Adamu’s follow-up was equally blocked.

Thomas Muller said after the tough encounter, “I have mixed feelings. Salzburg are a good team, the atmosphere was great here, the conditions were set for a good game of football. It was fun on the pitch, although we suffered more than we would have liked to.”

The impressive Austrian club were appearing in the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time but did not look out of place against a more accomplished Bayern Munich.
