Ramos, De Gea, hail La Rojas after lifting Women’s World Cup

Ramos described the feat by La Rojas as a historical one, thanking them for helping Spain realise its dream

Paris Saint-Germain defender, Sergio Ramos and former Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea have congratulated their female compatriots after winning the Women’s World Cup for the first time on Sunday.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the Spain women’s national football team popularly known as La Roja, narrowly edged past their England counterpart to win the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. 

A goal from Olga Carmona in the 29th minute ensured the Spain ladies defeated the reigning European champions, England.

Prior to this, Spain had defeated Sweden 2-1 in the semi-finals to reach the final of the tournament, while England defeated the host, Australia in the other semi-finals.

Reacting to the victory, Spanish legend, Ramos, who has won a record 180 international caps for his country and won two European Championships (2008, 2012) and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, took to his Instagram page to hail the ladies. 

He described the feat achieved by the La Rojas as a historic one and thanked them for helping his country to realise its dreams.  

He wrote; “Congratulations CHAMPIONS!! You got it! Thank you for all your work, your effort, your desire. For the strength and passion that you have put into each game.

“You have made an entire country’s dream. You have made HISTORY! FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2023 WORLD CHAMPIONS WORLD CHAMPIONS @sefutbolfem #VamosEspana.”

Similarly, Spanish goalkeeper, David de Gea, took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Spain’s Women’s team for lifting the trophy.

Speaking via his social media page the ex-Manchester United keeper tweeted: “Best team of the world @SEFutbolFem Enhorabuena chicas (Congratulations girls).”
