Despite the presence of security personnel, scores of youths are gathered at Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos, singing and dancing, and warming up to march from there to other parts of the state capital on the first of the planned 10 “days of rage” against hunger in Nigeria while the ruling class live in opulence and gaslight the masses.
Others are also massing up in the “EndBadGovernance” protest in Abuja, the federal capital, ignoring the arrogant threat of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, and the barricade mounted at strategic locations by armed security agents.
By 8.31am, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) with soldiers and police had protected the entry into the Three-Arms Zone where the National Assembly (NASS), the Supreme Court, and Aso Rock (the presidential residence) are located.
A police van was stationed at Moshood Abiola (MKO) Stadium, Abuja. Protesters gathered at the entrance singing anti-government songs in the presence of security operatives.
Among other opinion leaders, journalist and publisher Dele Momodu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had earlier cautioned Bola Tinubu against wasting national resources to wet the ground allegedly with bribes for his second term as President.
Dele Momodu on Tinubu’s wasteful spending
Momodu decried on his Facebook page the way Tinubu is giving out money to politicians to distribute for his re-election as neither healthy nor helpful, and he should instead invest in vocational skills for youth as well as in schools and agriculture.
“I believe you’re frittering away our resources because you desperately crave a second term. But the best assurance of a second term is PERFORMANCE,” he reiterated.
“Nigerians are not expecting you to turn water into wine but they don’t want you to turn their wines into water.
“Here are my tips: invest in vocational skills for our highly talented youths who can demonstrate their capacity for hard work. Invest heavily in local agriculture.
“Upgrade our institutions of learning. Giving cash to politicians to distribute is unhealthy and unhelpful. It is the height of cluelessness.”
