Protesters block Abuja-Kaduna expressway, cause gridlock

The protesters joined their counterparts in other parts of Nigeria, who gathered to demand for a better standard of living

Protesters have blocked the highway leading in and out of Abuja, causing gridlock at the Suleja axis of the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in Niger State.

The blockade by the demonstrators which was on just one section of the expressway affected the flow of traffic, leaving thousands of travellers and commuters stranded.

One of the commuters while narrating his experience said the gridlock has extended down many kilometres and heading towards the Zuma military barracks.

Another one told Daily Trust that though policemen were on ground, they were unable to salvage the situation as they were outnumbered by the protesters.

He said, “There are few policemen standing from afar, but they can do nothing about the roadblock as the number of the youths is beyond their control.” 

The protesters joined several other demonstrators in other parts of the country, who gathered to demand for a betterstandard of living.
