Prof Alkali was a people’s leader – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described the late delegate to the National Conference and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Professor Nura Alkali, as a “scholar par excellence” who would be missed greatly.

In a tribute to the late Alkali, the former Vice President in a statement issued by his media office in Abuja, said the late historian did not distinguish himself not only as an intellectual, but also a patriot who had contributed to the country’s political development.

According to Atiku, the late Professor Alkali was always invited by successive governments to come and offer his wealth of experience in the service of the country. Atiku Abubakar recalled that Professor Alkali’s last public assignment was his membership of the National Conference.

However, the former Vice President said, Professor Alkali’s greatest virtues were the fact that he lived and identified with his immediate community. He recalled that while other politicians deserted Borno State to live in Abuja because of the Boko Haram security menace, Professor Alkali had remained in the midst of his people until his death.
