Dennis Francis, President of the UN General Assembly, has announced that a memorial ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 30, to honor the late Iranian president and foreign minister.
On Thursday, Dennis Francis paid tribute to the deceased Iranian leaders by signing a memorial book at the Islamic Republic’s mission in New York. He was welcomed by Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Francis expressed his condolences to the Iranian government, nation, and the families of the victims.

Earlier, the UN General Assembly observed a minute of silence for the victims of the helicopter crash in Iran. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, when President Raisi was returning from a dam inauguration ceremony near Iran’s border with Azerbaijan. The helicopter crashed in Varzaqan, northwestern Iran, killing all onboard, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several senior provincial officials.
The international community mourns the loss of these leaders and stands in solidarity with the people of Iran during this difficult time.
