President of the United Labour Congress (ULC), Joe Ajaero, has predicted the collapse of the power sector in the next three years if the federal government refuses to review the licenses of the operators.

He stated this on Thursday, December 19 at the 6th Quadrennial and 11th National Delegates conference of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) in Lagos.

He said the privatisation process was a hoax as the international investors lied to Nigerians that it was for the interest of the country. He said six years down the line, no dollar came into the country.

“Six years down the line no power line has been added. No megawatt has been built. Instead, they are only telling us that they want to increase their tariff.

“How can you pay for what is not available? Every price has a measure. Garri has a cup as measure. Where is the meter for measure?

“They have paid them over trillion and they are still asking for more. If there was no power in Nigeria, the 16 billion dollars they paid them, Nigerians would have achieved a megawatt.”

Ajaero also disclosed that the privatization sector in power was not meant to succeed as it was meant to fail.

“It was more of a clique and context for grand corruption as it has gone unchecked for two decades,” he said.
