Zamfara, one of the poorest states in the North West, has again ignored its hordes of Almajiris and donated 260 Cadillac 2019 Model to 17 emirs, 13 senior district heads, and district heads, all members of the oligarchy oppressing the talakawas.

In total, the posh cars cost at least $9,046,700 (N3.76 billion).

Zamfara has 3,836,484 poor and vulnerable people, the highest in Nigeria. It is last in the ranking of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) by state in Nigeria by the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC).

About 80 per cent of Zamfara residents have no secondary school education and the doctor to patient ratio is 1:14,000.

There are at least 11 Cadillac 2019 Models which prices range from $34,795 to $100,295.

If Governor Bello Matawalle bought the least model at the base price of $34,795 per car, the 260 cars cost a total $9,046,700.

The distribution was done by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, and Matawalle said it is in recognition of the role of traditional rulers in maintaining peace Zamfara – a state under siege by terrorists.

His words: “The role of traditional rulers in fostering national unity, safeguarding our values, and serving as moral compass for our society cannot be over-emphasised.

“As premier leaders in our communities, traditional rulers play key roles in resolving conflicts and in assisting the government to provide fatherly advice to their subjects in the interest of promoting peace and harmony.

“As our leaders, we would stay steadfastly committed to providing for your welfare, safety and any essential support that will enable you to carry out your duties without incident and with bigger successes.”

Matawalle’s take on traditional institutions

Matawalle insisted that the largesse is also in recognition of the status of traditional institutions as custodians of religion and culture as well as vehicles of cohesion and peace, per reporting by The Nation.

He pledged to strengthen traditional institutions and to appreciate their efforts in resolving conflicts in the struggle to build a more peaceful and prosperous state.

He disclosed that his administration does not take decisions on issues of public concern without consultation with traditional rulers.

“We rely on you for feedback regarding the impact of our policies as they affect the general public.

“We always sit together with you to evaluate our policies, debate new options and strategise towards achieving the common objective of building a new Zamfara.

“This, we shall continue all the time, by the grace of God.”

Matawalle said he will continue to work with traditional rulers to create a friendly environment for everyone to contribute to the progress of Zamfara, adding that the government is rehabilitating some emirs’ palaces that will soon be completed.

Expanse of looting field

The PUNCH reiterates that Zamfara is a very poor state that is also under daily bombardment of terrorists who murder, maim, and displace thousands of citizens.

Zamfara has the highest number of poor and vulnerable people in Nigeria, according to the National Social Registry, with a record 3,836,484 from 825,337 households.

The United Nations says a person is considered to live in extreme poverty when they live on less than $1.90 per day; that is N798.

“Roughly 80 per cent people in Zamfara have no secondary school education. This accounts for why bandits have a huge reservoir of recruits on which they continuously tap from,” adds data analyst Rotimi Sankore.

Zamfara is 36th (least) in the ranking of SSCE by state in Nigeria by WAEC, and has a doctor to patient ratio of 1:14,000.

Under this terrible human social and economic conditions, Mattawale wastes N3.76 billionon rich traditional rulers, many of whom already have more than enough luxury vehicles in their garages.

If an average N2 million is spent to train and establish poor population of Zamfara, more than 5,000 will be empowered and removed from the street of joblessness and crime where youths are easily recruited to terrorist groups.

Nigeria is truly an expanse of looting field held hostage by its criminal ruling class, says The PUNCH.
