Policemen are at the National Assembly working to control their retired older colleagues from disrupting traffic and regular business activities as a result of their protest.
The retired police officers began a protest on Monday in Kaduna for an improved pension.
The retired police officers complain that their pension is meagre. But their pension is low because it is contributed from their low salary while they were in service.
The retired police officers started the protest in Kaduna, marching to the state police command headquarters in Kaduna to air their grievances, arguing that they were not interested in what they described as “a killer scheme.”
The protest continues today in Abuja. According to Daily Trust, serving police officers were immediately deployed to halt the move which was initially scheduled to hold at the popular Unity Fountain, the venue of the planned protest.
But upon hearing the police’s plans, the protesters changed the venue – a development that made police authorities deploy more officers in many strategic locations of the city.
The protesting retired police officers are currently at the entrance of the National Assembly to register their displeasure.
