Police in Akwa Ibom State have begun an investigation to unravel those behind the dumping of a dead human body in the capital, Uyo.

On Monday morning, residents of Ekpri Nsukara in the Uyo metropolis raised alarm over the body dumped near the gate of Boys Primary School, Anua, Uyo.

The body, which was reportedly cut from the trunk with the body and head taken away, leaving only the legs, was discovered tucked in a ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag by her killers.

A resident of the area and student of the University of Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Emmanuel Ekong, said: “We woke up this early Monday morning to discover a trunk of a young lady inside a ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag, chopped – off from the waist and the other part of the body from the waist to the head taken away by her killers. So, we can’t really identify whether she’s our fellow student, maybe later.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macedon, said the Akwa Ibom commissioner of police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the body found.

He said, “We have received that report. It’s just an unfortunate act, a dastardly one at that. It’s unfortunate that some people have no value for life. They can resort to barbaric acts at any given time.

“We are no longer living in the stone age. How can a fellow human being treat his fellow human being that way? The police command will spare no resources to ensure that perpetrators can be brought to book. The commissioner of police, Olatoye Durosinmi, is miffed at the report, and he has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident.”

He called on the people of Akwa Ibom State to provide information that could assist the police in tracking the perpetrators of the crime, adding that the police will treat such information very confidential.
