Police rescue American from committing suicide on Third Mainland Bridge

An American citizen (name withheld) attempted to jump into the third Mainland Bridge on Monday, but was rescued from doing so by the Lagos State Police Command.

The command, while confirming the development in a post on X.com, said the man, who was said to be in his early 30s, was brought to the bridge by his yet-to-be-identified baby mama.

According to the post, when they got to the bridge, the man directed his baby mama, who was also with their daughter, to park at a location on the bridge.

Thereafter, he got down from the vehicle and while attempting to jump into the lagoon, was persuaded to abort the mission by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad who were alerted to the incident.

The post read, “An American citizen, whose name is withheld, was at 1.23 pm on Monday, restrained from committing suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos

“The American, who is in his early 30s, was driven to the Third Mainland Bridge by his Baby Mama in the company of his daughter. He directed the lady who was unaware of his motive to park somewhere while he walked to a spot for a leap into the lagoon.

“A passerby who observed his movements quickly alerted patrolling RRS operatives who persuaded him from jumping and reunited him with his baby mama before taking them to the RRS headquarters in Alausa.”

According to the post, the Commander, RRS, Olayinka Egbeyemi, after advising the man and his family, directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Department of the police command for further counselling and necessary action.
