Police release Uche Nwosu after kidnap-style arrest

Son-in-law of Senator Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu, has been released by the police who abducted him during a church service on Sunday. 

The police later said Nwosu was only arrested and not abducted. 

The police did not offer any reason for his arrest, nor was he invited before the abduction which the police call arrest. 

TheNiche had reported how gunmen, who later turned out to be policemen, abducted the former governorship candidate in Imo State, Uche Nwosu, after firing a barrage of bullets into the air to ward off his police security aides. 

But the Imo State police command later issued a statement, saying Nwosu was not kidnapped but arrested.

The arrest was  during a church service. It was captured in a video recorded by some congregants who thought the gunmen were kidnappers.

In the video, the onlookers could be heard reading out the plate number of the getaway vehicle to be Abia UMA110 AA.   

According to the voices in the video clip, the policemen stormed the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama-Obaire in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State.

 Uche Nwosu is the son-in-law of Senator Rochas Okorocha. He was chief of staff when Okorocha was governor of Imo State. He later became commissioner for lands. 

He was the 2019 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA). 

Nwadike Chikezie, Special Adviser Media to Uche Nwosu, in a statement said, “I have spoken with him and he extended his greetings to all of us out there.

“While we await police report on why the abduction and arrest, we call on everyone to remain calm and focused because God is in charge of the whole situation.”

The release added: “The act of desecrating the House of God we all know is a direct affront and challenge to God Almighty. We leave God to do his fight because vengeance is of God but to all Christians, does it now mean that the Government has no more respect for God and does it now mean that the House of God is no more a place one can take refuge? God prove your answers.”
