Police recover 2,151 animals, arms from rustlers

The Katsina State Police Command has recovered 2,151 animals from rustlers from 10 local government areas that are vulnerable to cattle rustling.

The state Police Commissioner, Usman Abdullahi, made the disclosure in the report of the Command’s activities made available to reporters in Katsina on Tuesday.

The breakdown of the recovered animals and the local government where they were rescued, as provided by the police are as follow: Funtua, 32 cows, 33 sheep; Faskari, 51 cows; Safana, 260 cows, 26 sheep, seven goats, one donkey; Batsari, 375 cows, 455 sheep, 520 goats.

Others are Danmusa, 239 cows, 41 sheep and 22 goats; Jibia, 63 cows, one camel; Kurfi, eight cows,10 sheep; Dutsinma, 40 cows, 34 sheep; Kafur, 17Cows, nine sheep.

The report also revealed that the Command recovered assorted arms and ammunition, including two sharp axes, one cutlass, 13 arrows, one wooden toy-gun, three locally-made pistols, 20 locally-made dane guns, one Browny pistol, one Barreta pistol, one cut-to-size double barrel gun, three AK47 rifles, 85 assorted live ammunition, and 49 assorted expended empty shells.

The report was however silent on the number of recent arrests made by the Command.
