No fewer than 2, 219 police officers and men have been elevated to the next rank in Niger State.
The Police command also said that the beneficiaries were honoured on merit in 2020.
State Commissioner of Police, Adamu Usman disclosed this while performing the decoration ceremony of the promoted officers-presentation of awards to the officers at the Police Officers Mess, Minna.
The commissioner, while congratulating the beneficiaries for the feat said, “In the last 12 months, a total of 2, 219 officers and men of Niger State Command were promoted to the new ranks on merit.
“The beneficiaries included, one CSP to ACP, 21 SP to CSP, 5 DSP to SP, 4 ASP to DSP, 282 Inspectors to ASPs, 1,120 Sergeants to Inspectors and 521 Corporals to Sergeants while 264 Constables received their new ranks as, Corporals”.
Adamu Usman also pointed out that the promotion of 10 officers was based on the principle of seniority and merit and as well, reflective of their records of discipline and invaluable experiences.
While appealing to the newly promoted officers to put in their best as promotion means more responsibilities, the Commissioner urged them to also apply their wealth of experience in achieving the police mandate of policing especially in the prevalent security situation.
He said, “Be civil to citizens and be guided by the rule of law. In addition, you must demonstrate sound professional judgement in all decisions, knowing that you could be called to account for your actions or inactions.”
On behalf of the newly promoted officers, ACP Yahaya Isah, now promoted to the position of CSP, expressed appreciation to the Police Service Commission for rewarding their hard work with the promotion.
It was gathered that during the event about 29 deserving officers and men who had performed exceptionally in their places of primary assignment received different categories of awards.
