Kaduna State Police Command says it has commenced investigation into an attack on the convoy of Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Thursday.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Jalige, stated this in a press release on Friday.

According to him, armed hoodlums, suspected to be members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, attacked law-abiding citizens and prevented motorists from plying the Bakin Ruwa axis of Rigasa, Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway in Igabi Local Government Area.

Jalige said the suspects in a large number were intercepted harassing innocent citizens when El-Rufai’s convoy arrived at the scene.

He explained that the suspects on sighting the convoy began firing weapons and throwing stones which hit several private vehicles along with a few in the convoy.

“The security operatives professionally contained the miscreants without the use of force.

“Some of the hoodlums were arrested and investigation is in progress,” Jalige said.

He added that security operatives attached to El-Rufai’s convoy have since rid the axis of the suspects.

But the Shi’ites accused the governor of causing the death of five members of the group when his security details allegedly opened fire on them during a protest in Kaduna.
