Police parade 28 robbery, three kidnap suspects in Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Police Command on Thursday, June 15, 2017, arrested and paraded 28 armed robbery suspects, three suspected kidnappers and numerous cultists across the communities of the state.

The command also arrested a footballer attached to Bayelsa United Feeder Team, Emmanuel Tibofa, for robbing Swali market traders in Yenagoa.

The comman said that the suspect was also a member of Greenlander cult group in the state.

Parading the suspects in the state Police Command, Commissioner of Police, Asuquo Amba, said that the suspects were gangs of cultists, armed robbers and kidnappers that were terrorizing the state.

The suspects, Amba said, were arrested at various locations in the state as most of them were known for robbing bank customers, Keke riders and residents of the city.

The command, Amba said, made a success in May by arresting two members of notorious criminal gangs, that specialized in raiding Corpers lodge and dispose Corps members of their valuable items ranging from handsets, laptops and cash.

Amba said that ‘Bayelsa State has no room for armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists and vowed that night lives would soon return to the city.’

On t the footballer, Amba said that he was arrested at Swali market while robbing traders of cash and other personal belongings.

His words: “Tibofa was arrested after robbing a trader with a locally made pistol in his possessions as other of his gangs escaped. ‘‘Our strategy in fighting crimes and criminalities in the state is paying off over the months as we have made success in apprehending 28 armed robbers, three notorious kidnappers and other cultist groups terrorizing the state.

‘We want to ensure that the Inspector General of Police directives to make kidnapping non-lucrative business in the state.”

The command, CP said, equally foiled an armed robbery attempt to rob a bank customer the sum of N150, 000 inside a

tricycle along Yenagoa road on Thursday morning.

The police also arrested one Abas Mohammed, a suspected armed robber, for snatching N38,500 from a woman who withdrew money from a bank.

The Police commissioner also said that all the kidnapped victims were rescued by his team.

Amba further said, ‘We equally recovered various stolen items from the robbers and cultists such as  six locally made pistols, 16 live cartridges, one battle axe, one Toyota Camry car and one 9mm live ammunitions from the suspects.

“Bayelsa is not under siege, the state is peaceful. There is no security gap in the state.”

He promised that soon night life would soon return to the state capital.

He assured the that the suspects would be charged to court and prosecuted after thorough investigations.
