A community leader, Mr. Calistus Afe in Irun Akoko, Akoko North West Local government area of Ondo State has been invited by the police, Zone 17, Akure for allegedly organising thugs to disrupt the last general election in the town where one Dauda Oluwatobi was shot in the leg.
It was gathered that Oluwatobi Dauda escaped death by the whiskers after he was attacked by one of the gunmen, a loyalists of the community leader.
The Community leader, (Calistus Afe) was cited along with the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Ondo State Chapter, Mr Fatai Adams at the office of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 who came to support him.
Also, with the community leader was his lawyer, Barrister Tolu Babaleye who came around to see that he was not being detained by the police.
In a petition obtained by TheNiche which was signed by Mr. J.F. Alade, Esq, counsel to Dauda Oluwatobi, Samuel Idris and Jimoh Latef dated 31st March, 2023, Calistus Afe was accused of threat to life and properties, armed robbery and breach of public peace.
It reads: “It is our brief that sometimes on the 15 day of march, 2023, one Mr. Calistus Afe, member of a political party, approached our client and instructed him that his mandate is to ensure that he works for a success of another political party as a leader of the Zone of their community.
“Our client, being circumspect of the mandate and instruction cum directive of the said Mr. Calistus Afe, politely points him to a card carrying member of different political party who is fielding candidates for all the political positions for the same contest in the state.
“Since the day our client turned down the demand of the said Mr. Calistus Afe on the 15th day of March, 2023, it has been a torrent of victimisation and violence on the person of our client from Mr. Afe and his hired political cohorts who had made life unbelievable for our client.
“One of these hired political cohorts who have constituted himself into huge torn on the flesh of our client is one Abiola Ajulo.
“Abiola Ajulo attempted the life of our client with revolving gun (fire armed) on the 18th day of March,2023 severally but for the grace of God that the pellet missed his target by whisker.
“The said Abiola Ajulo, alongside one Jimoh Emmanuel Ojo, also robbed our client of the sum of Eighty Thousand Naira (N80,000) in the process, Jimoh Latef was severally stabbed with broken bottles
“Today, the life of our client, his family members and the leaders of the Surulere Community of Irun Akoko, Ondo State is in grave danger of assassination from Abiola Ajulo and his cohorts whose nanes are Sanusi Ahmed, Jimoh Emmanuel Ojo, Ganiyu Ajulo and Akin Ogundeji”, the Petitioners said.
They therefore called on the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 17 to use his good offices to investigate the matter and most especially Mr. Calistus Afe, Abiola Ajulo and their cohorts so as ensure peace in Surulere community of Irun Akoko
