Police dock two men over conspiracy, assault, theft

The  Commissioner of Police in Lagos State have arraigned Ramon Olowu and Mutiu Sasore,  before an Igbosere  magistrate court on a seven count charge bordering on  conspiracy, assault, grievous harm, stealing, unlawful display of arms, and breach of peace.

The police stated that the duo allegedly assaulted a man by chopping off one of his fingers,  stabbed another on his forehead and also stole their phones.

Olowu (25), who resides at 17, Freeman Street Lagos Island is a businessman while Sasore  who lives at 39, Adams Street, Lagos Island is a coblar. They were docked before MagistrateM.O. Ope-Agbe.

During the arraignment, the police Prosecutor, Seargent Friday Mameh told the court that the defendants and others who are still at large conspired amongst themselves to commit the offences. between July 13, 2018, at about 6 am, at Okepopo area of Lagos Island and July 12, at 10 pm.

According to the prosecutor, “The first defendant Olowu, while armed with cutlass, unlawfully assualted one Mr Gerald Nwaneri, by cutting off the fourth finger on his left hand

“Olowu also stole an Infix Phone Model X555, valued N50,000 and a Nokia phone valued N10,000, property of Nwaneri”.

The prosecutor also said that Olowu unlawfully stabbed one Mr Toheeb Akorede, on his forehead and also stole his Vivo Phone valued at N20,000.

Mameh said Sasore and others still at large conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace of residence of the community.

“Sasore, committed the offence on July 12, 2018, at about 10pm, at Freeman Street Lagos Island,”the prosecutor further said.

According to the prosecutor the offences committed are Punishable Under Sections 51,245,280 (a),246,168 (d) and 45 (2), of the Criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.

However, the duo pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

The Magistrate Ope-Agbe granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each who are gainfully employed.

She said that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.
The case was adjourned till July 26, for mention.
