Police confirm arrest of suspected ‘notorious kidnapper,’ Chinaza Phillip

The FCT Police Command has issued a formal confirmation regarding the recent arrest of an individual identified as Chinaza Phillip, a notorious kidnapper known to operate within the Abuja area.

This significant development transpired on Thursday, January 18, 2024, when police operatives from the Kaduna State Police Command successfully apprehended the suspect.

Following the arrest, a swift and coordinated transfer took place, and as of today, Friday, January 19, 2024, Chinaza Phillip is securely held in the custody of the FCT Police Command. The seamless collaboration between law enforcement agencies underscores the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public.

Backstory

Chinaza’s kidnapping spree came to an abrupt end yesterday when the Kaduna State Police command swopped on him. He was reportedly ferrying one of his victims from the suburb of the Federal Capital Territory to Kano en route Kaduna when he met his waterloo.

Detailing how Chinaza was arrested, spokesperson of the Command Mansur Hassan, explained that Operatives from Kawo Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call, intercepting a grey Toyota Hilux van suspected to be transporting the kidnappers and their captive.

As the police closed in, a tense confrontation unfolded.

The statement said one of the kidnappers, identified as 28-year-old Chinaza Philip from Life Camp Abuja, opened fire in a desperate attempt to escape.  In response, the police engaged in a gun duel, resulting in the rescue of the victim, Segun Akinyemi, and the arrest of Chinaza Philip.
