Police arraign security guard over alleged N4.2m diesel theft

A 25-year-old security guard, Daniel Amedu, was on Monday arraigned before  Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan over alleged N4.2 million diesel theft.

Amedu who was charged with conspiracy, theft and negligence  pleaded not guilty to the charge 

According to the charge filed by the  Prosecutor, Insp Femi Oluwadare, the defendant was alleged to have committed the offences on June 10 at Agricare Hatchery Company, Oluyole, Ibadan.

Oluwadare alleged that the defendant’s negligence led to the theft of 3,715 litres of diesel worth N4, 272, 250 belonging to the aforementioned company.

He alleged that the defendant neglected his duty as a security guard at the aforementioned company, which caused the thieves to steal the diesel.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 515 and 516 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr Maruff Mudashiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum and

adjourned the case until August 8 for trial.
