Police arraign 2 men for stealing sheep

The police on Friday arraigned two men, Makau Bello and Mustapha Gado, both of Ganuwa village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara for stealing sheep.

The prosecutor, Insp. Yakubu Abuga, told the court that on Dec. 22, 2014, the accused, who were suspected members of miscreant group terrorising Bungudu, conspired with others, yet to be identified members of a group, and stole five sheep.

Abuga said the stolen sheep belonged to one Nuhu Sani of the same address.

He added that on Dec. 30, 2014, two men, also of the same address, saw the accused persons with three of the stolen sheep on their way to Kaura Namoda market.

He said the accused threatened to kill the two men if they informed anyone.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 97, 397, 288 and 305 of the Penal Code.

However, Bello and Gado pleaded not guilty to the offence and the Magistrate, Alhaji Umar Abdulnasir, ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody.

He then adjourned the case until April 22 for hearing.
