POEM: The east wind of Nigeria

Chief John Nnia Nwodo

By Chijioke Churuba

There is an east wind that hisses for attention.

An east wind, that freaks to tell a story

That the trumpeters of the country

Dare not to tell.

A thunderous story that gathered for years

And is gathering, more and more

A story that, the young men from the east

Clench their fists, and are ready to hear

A story that, the elderly from the east

Make their hums, and are willing to hear.

A story that, the stargazers, squelch

And scorn at, and are not willing to hear

But, it is a story, that has come to stay,

And a story that stubbornly stares

Let’s listen to the story

And in peace, save our day.

An east wind, it is

But, no one, calls it, what it is!
