Plumptre hailed by Leicester after winning debut for Nigeria

Plumptre plays for the women’s team of Leicester, the male team of the Foxes have three Super Eagles players

Leicester City have applauded Ashleigh Plumptre’s performance in Super Falcons’ win over Ivory Coast at the MKO Abiola stadium on Friday

The Foxes defender who switched allegiance from England to Nigeria recently made quite an impression in her competitive debut for the Falcons.

Plumptre was rock solid in the heart of the defence, as the Falcons beat their Ivorian counterpart 2-0 in the first-leg final round qualifier for women’s AFCON.

A brace from United States based striker, Ifeoma Onumonu in the 21th and 56th minutes settled the encounter for the reigning WAFCON champions.

After the win, Leicester celebrated the victory and wrote on their women’s Twitter handle: “A win and clean sheet for @ashplumptre on her Nigeria debut! 💪”

Plumptre and her teammates will travel to Abidjan on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, for the return leg of the double-header encounter.

The defender plays for the women’s team of Leicester, the male team boast of three other Nigerian, Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and, Ademola Lookman who is on loan from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
