Pinnick permits Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro to take another job

NFF appointed Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles’ substantive head coach last December after Gernot Rohr was given the boot

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has given Eagles’ gaffer, Jose Peseiro the go-ahead to secure another coaching appointment if he wishes.  

The NFF president said this while speaking on Channels TV about the Super Eagles’ preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ghana in March.

Jose Peseiro was announced as Super Eagles’ head coach last December after Gernot Rohr’s dismissal, and he was expected to take over from the interim coach, Austin Eguavoen.after the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

However, the NFF seems not to be keen on securing the services of the Portuguese coach anymore after Eguavoen’e exploits at AFCON. 

Pinnick during the interview confirmed that the NFF is yet to officially sign a contract with Jose Peseiro, he also said he is free to seek another job elsewhere.  

He went on to say the football house does not want to make hasty decisions and that Peseiro’s situation will be reviewed after the World Cup qualifier against Ghana.  

He said, “I am still talking to him [Jose Peseiro], maybe he has to wait till after the World Cup qualifiers [against Ghana].

“If in the course of his waiting, he got another job, we wish him well.

“The good news is that we did not sign the contract officially.

“We don’t want to rush and make a hasty decision considering the circumstances.

“We have to do what is best for the nation.

“And we work in harmony with the sports ministry, which represents the government.”
