In a mater of hours, a petition seeking the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU) to place Visa ban on Governor Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State will hit the 25,000 mark.
The petition, which was started by former aide on social media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has already received 22,776 endorsement within the first 48 hours.
Omokri had earlier got 5,000 people to sign an online petition calling for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the bullion van that entered the premises of a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu on the eve of the 2019 presidential election. The EFCC has not responded to the demand.
The petition against El-rufai, which started on September 15, coincided with the announcement by EU and UK to place Visa ban on election offenders in Edo and Ondo.
Omokri believes that the petition would be attended to by the EU and UK.
“Save Nigeria from evil leaders. Sign the petition calling on the UK government @10DowningStreet) and the @EU_Commission to follow the US lead and place a travel ban on @Elrufai, for actions against democracy and promoting genocide,” he said.
The online petition may be eligible for a response from the UK and EU once it reaches the final mark of 25,000 signatories.
El-ufai’s friends have also responded to the petition by starting one against Omokri, calling him an enemy of Nigeria who should be ban from UK and EU, and not El-rufai.
Nigerians are eagerly waiting what the next move would be like when the petition against El-rufai reaches the 25,000 mark. Would the UK respond by acknowledging receipt of the petition? Or would they simply ignore? Whichever way the UK and EU respond will determine who wins between El-rufai and Omokri.
