Some supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have been attacked in Lagos.

The supporters came under attack from suspected hoodlums on their way to the party’s rally on Saturday at the Tafawa Balewa Square.

Spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Tanko Yunusa, confirmed this to reporters, saying: “The Obidient Movement is under attack in Lagos. They are stopping our people from coming to the TBS rally.

“Nothing can stop a movement whose time has come . Security operatives, take note. We keep moving ‘Obidiently and Yusfully.’”

Some of the photos of the attack show vehicles with broken windscreens. A man’s shirt was also covered in blood in another photo.

Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

“I don’t know if they are Labour Party or APC members but I can confirm that some people attacked others and the DPO in that area is already on the matter,” he told Daily Post.

Obi is already leading in many polls, including the latest by global media giant, Bloomberg. Although his opponents have dismissed the poll on the ground that it is not reflective of Nigeria’s voting pattern, the Lagos rally may be an avenue for Obidients to show their street acceptance.

The presidential election, just 14 days away, will be one of the most keenly contested since the inception of the fourth republic in 1999. The frontrunners are Tinubu of the APC, Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Obi of the Labour Party.
