Bimbo Akintola is a prominent and versatile Nollywood actress who came into limelight after her outstanding role in the movie, Out of Bounds. She has not relented in stunning her fans till date. In this encounter with Reporter, REGINA WHENU, Bimbo shares the magic formula that makes her the darling of many
What are the things that make you happy aside acting?
Writing poetry, cooking, hanging out with family and friends, and reading.
I have seen the #BringBackOurGirls placards with you in pictures. What would you do if you had an opportunity to help?
I do not know what I could do, honestly. I just want those children back home to their parents and for their healing to start.
If you could turn back the hands of time, what would you do differently?
In all honesty, nothing! Everything has made me who I am, helped me understand myself better. Every mistake, every right decision has been a lesson well learnt.
Is there any time you feel people expect too much from you?
Yes, sometimes people take advantage of the fact that as an actress you answer everyone – at least I try to – and ask for crazy favours like money.
What is your special recipe or the magic formula(e) that make(s) you this loved?
Hopefully, it is because I always give every story, every character, my best performance.
What do you with your leisure time?
I read, cook and shop.
Do you ever worry or wonder about why people love you – whether it is for the real you or because you are a celebrity?
I have been very lucky with my friends; they are like my family.
Is there anyone in particular that you enjoy working with?
Anyone, as long as they are professional.
What work are you most proud of?
I am proud that I went to University of Ibadan and studied Theatre Arts because I always advise younger ones to do that – study.
If you could star in the re-make of a Nigerian classic movie, what movie will it be, and what role would you like to play, and why?
Hmm, Violated. I was supposed to be in the movie. I would love to be part of a re-make playing any role.
What motivated you to take up your role in ‘Hear Word’?
The fact that I believe it is important for us as a people to talk, it is time to stop the silence on topics that make people uncomfortable, it is time for us to know that we can make a change in someone’s situation. Child abuse thrives because we refuse to confront it; girls are raped, women are physically abused etc. We can change so much, and the first step is speaking out.
What has the journey been like from ‘Out of Bounds’ in 1997 to ‘Hear Word’?
It has been crazy, exciting, and amazing. I am so grateful that I have a job that allows me say so much and touch lives.
Do people mistake you for a particular character in a movie?
Not mistake really; they love to call me ‘Tutu’ from Out of Bounds and sing “don’t mess with my Tutu”.
Why do you think producers pick you for roles?
Hopefully because they know I will always be professional.
