Doors remain open in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for all Nigerians desiring to move the country forward to join the party to brainstorm on how Africa’s most population nation can achieve true greatness.
Groups and like-minded political parties are also welcome, in order to foster a strong rallying point to rescue the country from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was part of the resolutions of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
A statement issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the party wants to lead a strong conversation towards a formal coalition of democratic forces to guarantee an all-inclusive platform before the 2019 election.
The PDP plans to deploy its democratic structures at all levels across the country to “legitimately and urgently rally all Nigerians to vote out the APC” and return Nigeria to “national cohesion, stability and prosperity for the good of all.”
It urged all Nigerians to condemn the assault on the National Assembly (NASS), particularly the Senate, leading to the seizure of the mace and disruption of proceedings in the highest lawmaking chamber in the land.
It condemned the invasion as a direct attack on the sovereignty of Nigeria and its integrity as a democratic nation, and demanded the prosecution of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and all those involved.
It also sought an inquest into compromised security at the NASS.
The PDP laughed off the scheduled visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States, the home of democracy, when “his administration is annihilating, harassing and strangulating opposition voices, even within his own party.”
It criticised Buhari for branding Nigerian youths as lazy, describing it as a direct injury on the sensibility of Nigerian youths “known worldwide to be hardworking.”
The party reiterated “belief and confidence in Nigerian youths” that they “are resourceful and agile.”
Nigeria is blessed with hardworking young men and women, it insisted, and asked them to team up with PDP Generation Next Movement to vote out the APC, which shows no “interest in their well-being” and holds them in “disdain.”
The PDP directed its National Working Committee (NWC) to commence action to establish a shadow cabinet to pilot PDP’s roadmap towards national economic recovery and good governance.
