Kwara state government has drawn attention of people of the state to an alleged plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some other opposition elements in the state to smear the governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and some other top functionaries of the government with unfounded allegations of financial impropriety.
The government said the opposition groups intended to carry out their plot by making tales of corruptions that only exist in their imagination and to rehash those that have been investigated and found to be unfounded and baseless.
The Special Adviser to the governor on political communication, Bashir Adigun, who spoke with newsmen at a press conference in Ilorin said the opposition group planned to use online media and some other media platforms to launch their attack against the government.

He said they planned to come up again with the story of missing N300m fund of the local governments which a panel had already investigated and found to be untrue.
Adigun said the opposition were repeating the allegation about N750m contract inflation when the group that made the claim had since withdrawn the allegation
He said the groups were making allegation that the government spent N6bn without the consent of the former Auditor General of the state when, according to him, there was no time the Auditor General made such a claim. He added that the queries the former Auditor General raised with regard to some expenditures by a few ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) “have since been resolved and the former Auditor General has clarified same.”
The governor’s aide while also saying that the government had uncovered plots to come up with allegations of all other kinds of false and malicious statements to discredit the governor and government officials stated that the plot is dead on arrival.
“We have also uncovered plots by the opposition elements to dot the social media and other platforms with doctored financial statements, audiovisuals, inuendoes, and all kind of false and malicious contents to discredit the governor and other government officials.
“This plot is dead on arrival as the people can see through the desperation of those who see public offices as their birthright and cannot imagine that the people of Kwara state took their destinies in their own hands in 2019.”
Adigun who asserted that the governor had made incredible achievements in office alleged that as the electioneering time is approaching, the PDP and its allies would come up with various unfounded stories and propaganda to smear the administration of Governor Abdulrazaq.
“All these laudable achievements within three years are what give the opposition sleepless nights and their reason to want to embark on falsehood and smear campaign,” he stated.
The governor’s aid urged the media to fact check statements the opposition makes and residents of the state to be wary of any statement or contents from “these desperate elements and their different allies.”
