PDP has done well to guarantee it sweeps polls in Benue – Aide

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue said it had performed well in the past 16 years to ensure that it sweeps the polls slated for March 28 and April 11.

The Special Adviser to Gov. Gabriel Suswam on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Solomon Wombo, made the remark in a chat with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi on Friday.

“The PDP has done tremendously well in the past 16 years; it has increased workers’ salaries by over 40 percent, it has improved the fortunes of farmers and those of small and medium scale enterprises.

“In terms of infrastructure, we have constructed rural and township roads to boost commerce and attract investments in the past 16 years of political dominance in the state.”

He said the party had a foundation to build upon while those challenging the party had nothing to point at as their achievements in the state.

Wombo said the opposition parties were only engaged in ostentatious display of political gatherings which lacked grassroots backing.

The governor’s aide, who is also the Patron of the Support Group for PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Terhemen Tarzoor, said paucity of funds was hampering the execution of campaign programmes.

He said the support group was a fusion of 15 campaign organisations of erstwhile gubernatorial aspirants of the party, for the porpoise of ensuring the emergence of Tarzoor as the governor of the state.

Wombo advised the electorate to vote wisely by ensuring that only candidates with proven integrity and impeccable track records of achievements were voted into offices.

Wombo also said the governor had submitted names of caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government councils to the state legislature for approval.

He said the constitution of caretaker chairmen was constitutional and legal.

Local government councils had been run by the Directors-General of Services and Administration (DGSA) of the local councils since Dec. 2014 when the elected council chairmen were dissolved.
