PDP halts campaign in Imo over attack on Ugochinyere’s home

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its campaign over an attack on the home of Ikenga Ugochinyere, the party’s candidate for Ideato North/South seat in the House of Representatives.

Imo PDP Secretary, Ray Emeana, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Emeana, the campaign will be suspended for one week.

The Imo PDP Secretary noted that the party had also resolved to stage a protest over the attack on Ugochinyere’s hometown in Akokwa, Imo.

He said that on January 14 motorcades conveying gunmen and arsonists stormed the residence of Ugochinyere where four persons were allegedly killed including the candidate’s uncle.

Ugochinyere is also the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

Emeana said that during the period of mourning, the party’s flags would fly at half mast. He enjoined all party faithful to wear black armbands.

He added that the protest against the incident would take place on January 18 at 10am, calling on candidates to come with 10 leaders from each local government area.
