The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as irresponsible the verbal attack of Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC, Kogi) against Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said Adeyemi exhibited high level irresponsibility using the privileges of the Senate Chamber to engage in unprovoked disparagement of Ikpeazu and Abians who had not offended him.

“It is indeed unfortunate that Adeyemi, whose words were respected by Nigerians while he was in the PDP, has become so corrupted by his sojourn in the All Progressives Congress (APC), that he has completely lost his mind just to satisfy some new gods,” Ologbondiyan lamented.

He said Adeyemi must have noted the widespread “national detestation and opprobrium” he brought to himself by his unguarded comment against Ikpeazu and the people of Abia State.

Moreover, he added, the PDP has noted that Adeyemi’s “uncouth comment is borne out of bitter envy for the achievements” of Ikpeazu in every sector of life in Abia, “which no APC governor, including Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, can compare.”

Ologbondiyan warned that the PDP would not stomach any such unwarranted and unprovoked attack on any of its governors and will deploy all instruments provided in a democratic setting against any individual who does it.

He urged Ikpeazu not to be distracted by “sidetracking elements such as Adeyemi,” but to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to Abians.
