PDP carpets Uzodimma, says he can’t win a free and fair ballot

Hope Uzodimma cannot win reelection as Imo Governor in a free, fair, and credible election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated in the final push to the vote on November 11.

The PDP, which ruled the state before the Supreme Court declared Uzodimma Governor in a legal fight in January 2020, said all election metrics show he has been rejected by the people.

PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, who made the point in Abuja, argued Uzodimma, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has no fighting chance against PDP candidate Samuel Anyanwu.

“The APC knows that it does not have the mandate of the people. Governor Uzodimma has no visible organic support base in any part of Imo State. He has never won any election in the state because he is detached from the people, including in his home, Orlu zone,” Olorunagba fired.

“The indicators are clear and the November 11, 2023 election will not be different. Governor Uzodimma will not win in any polling unit in a free, fair, and transparent election because Imo people have found a credible, sincere, humane, and approachable leader in Senator Anyanwu.

“That is why the APC has been resorting to violence and intimidation of innocent citizens, destruction of property, and devising various means to frustrate opposition parties in the electoral process and to compromise institutions of democracy, having realized that it cannot win in a peaceful, free and fair contest.

“But I can assure you that the people of Imo State are bigger than the APC and they are resolved to resist the APC, particularly in the coming election.”

PDP boasts Anyanwu enjoys statewide support

Ologunagba boasted Anyanwu enjoys the highest support in Imo and repeated PDP’s demand for the immediate removal of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Sylvia Agu, a professor.

He said Agu’s removal would guarantee an impartial, free, fair, and credible election, per reporting by The PUNCH.

Uzodimma, however, has been firing on all cylinders to impress voters, inviting federal dignitaries and those from other states to commission projects he built from scratch or those initiated by previous administrations which he completed.

And  he has been attracting television footage for the optics, a tactic he copied from former Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike who adopted it in the twilight of his administration to gain national prominence.

Uzodimma, who often speaks with confidence, has also been leveraging his closeness to the corridors of power in Aso Rock, which portrays him as being in the good books of President Bola Tinubu.

He says being an ally of Tinubu is to the benefit of Imo and other states in the South East, all of which Uzodimma wants to ditch opposition politics and team up with the ruling party at the federal level.
