The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State on Wednesday appointed Senator Buruji Kashamu as the chairman of its campaign committee for the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Kashamu, representing Ogun East senatorial district in the National Assembly, is the governorship candidate of the party for 2019 elections.
Apart from the senator, 41 other members from the 20 local government areas of the state were appointed into the state PDP campaign committee.
Notable among the members include the state chairman, Engr. Bayo Dayo, who will serve as Kashamu’s deputy; Alhaji Semiu Sodipo (Secretary) and Otunba Kunle Bolujoko, Segun Ewedimu, Femi Alao, Remi Olusoji, Hon. Koye Ijaduoye, Engr. Ayinde Awobadejo, Chief Kola Sorinola, Alhaji Wole Adeyanju and Alhaji Dawodu Wasiu Oludengu.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee held at the state PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, Dayo urged the members to work together and ensure the victory of the party’s presidential candidate in 2019.
He said the power of incumbency of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot stop his party from winning next year’s elections.
Dayo said, “Our presidential candidate is a man of the people and he is a man that can lead the nation. Let’s start our works in all the wards. Ogun should be one of the states to win election for Atiku.
“It is not easy to wrestle power from the incumbent government. We have to move to the wards and talk to the people.”
Speaking against the backdrop of the factional crisis rocking the state chapter, the chairman said his executive remained the legitimate and legally recognised.
He faulted those parading themselves as candidates of the party without recourse to the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary.
Dayo said, “We still have some people that are parading themselves in Ogun State as candidates. We have the list that is duly signed by the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC).
“We won’t fight anybody because PDP is one family in Ogun. We are going to do reconciliation.”
