PDP, APC senators clash over Obanikoro

There is a serious ongoing supremacy battle between senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress over the eligibility of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro for screening and confirmation as a Minister of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Musiliu Obanikoro

Obanikoro had been allegedly involved in the controversial Ekiti State governorship election audio tape, which is now popularly called Ekitigate, and series of petitions have been submitted against him seeking his disqualification.

Despite series of point of orders from Senator Bukola Saraki, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, Senator Babajide Omoware, the Senate on Wednesday decided to go ahead to conduct the screening.

This development also saw the Minority Leader, Senator Gorge Akume, omitting Obanikoro’s name from the ministerial list he read at plenary on Wednesday. Akume recognized the three others nominees in his speech.

The development led to dead silence for about one minute in the Upper Chamber. The screening has, however, commenced with the first three nominees. If nothing changes, Obanikoro will be the last to be screened. Expect updates on this developing story on this news website.
