Ex-Arsenal midfielder, Paul Merson has explained why Manchester City allowed new Gunners’ striker, Gabriel Jesus to leave the Etihad.

The Gunners legend noted that the Brazilian’s current goal drought at Arsenal is all too familiar going by his record at his former club.

Jesus completed a move away from the Etihad to the Emirates in the summer and has since then made a significant and telling difference to his new club.

The Brazilian since his move to North London has helped Arsenal maintain the top spot in the English top flight after scoring five goals and giving five assists in 12 games at the start of the new season.

However, Gabriel Jesus has now gone eight matches in all competitions without finding the back of the net.

Ahead of Sunday’s game with London rivals, Chelsea, Paul Merson has suggested City allowed the Brazilian to leave because he doesn’t score enough goals.

He said: “You shouldn’t be having them at Man City. There are going to be games where it’s going to be tight and you need your goalscorer.”
