Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, has appealed to Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to sheath their swords and allow peace and tranquility to reign in the state.
She gave the advice to the incumbent Rivers State governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recently while commenting on the political crisis rocking the state.
According to her, elections in the state have come and gone and it is now time to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
Addressing the political impasse, Patience Jonathan said: “We at this point plead that election has come and gone, and now is the time for governance.
“As a peace advocate, I will like to call on the warring parties in Rivers State to sheathe their swords and give peace a chance, knowing fully that no development can take place in an atmosphere of chaos.
“As a political office holder, remember that power is transient and it will end someday.
“Therefore, holding onto power after expiration of your tenure is an invitation to violence and anarchy.”
Meanwhile, the former First Lady while delivering a speech at a public function recently described her experience as the wife of the president of Nigeria as a “stressful” one.
According to her, if she is asked to return to the presidential villa to function in the position again, she would decline the offer.
Speaking during the event, she said, “If you call me now for villa, I wouldn’t go there. I won’t. Don’t you see how young I am? The stress is so much.”
