The Bishop of the Diocese of Owo, Anglican Communion, Rt. Revd. Ayodeji Fagbemi, has advised the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to formulate people oriented policies that will free Nigerians from the pang of suffering and poverty.
He also advised that his policies should revolve around education, security, and the basic needs of the people should be given the highest priority, particularly now that Nigerians are craving a new beginning.
Fagbemi gave the counsel during the 40th anniversary celebration of the diocese held on Wednesday at the Cathedral Church of Saint Andrew, Imola, Owo, Ondo State.

Reacting to the emergence of the President-elect, the bishop said Nigerians are looking up to Tinubu and urged him not to fail the country.
He said “We pray that the president-elect will be able to give hope to Nigerians.
“Nigeria has been going through a lot of pain and agony. The president-elect must look a how to bring succour to the country. We have gone through a lot, and the policies must be such that they can bring peace, hope, and comfort to the people.
“He must be able to provide employment and meet the basic needs of communities and the whole nation as a whole. Our economy must be improved, and so, of course, must our security, which is very important so that Nigeria can also stand tall among comity of nations.
“A lot of our young people are running away under the ‘Japa’ syndrome, so he must do something to help our people stay back home to halt the brain drain.”
He went on to emphasise that the church would continue to be the voice of the voiceless and give succour to the less privileged in society.
“In years to come, the diocese will grow further in leaps and bounds to reach more people in the local communities around us.
“The church will also be in a position to have more support for more people, so that the unemployed youths will find out that the church is a place for them to come.”
On his part, the Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province, Most Revd Simeon Borokini, assured that Nigeria will be great again, pointing out that “when God says yes, no one can say no”.
Boroikini said “You know what happens to Nigeria as regards naira and fuel scarcity, Nigeria will be great again.
“Nobody can finish the work of God, it is a continuous one. Do your bit and leave the rest. God’s work must not be done on our terms but on His terms.
“Ministries should not be concentrated in urban areas. Gospels should be spread to the grassroots, hinterlands, nooks and crannies of the society” he added.
Tinubu of the All Progressives Party (APC) polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to beat his nearest challengers, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi who came second and third after securing 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively.
