Senator David Umaru, representing Niger-East senatorial district, has called for a proactive measure towards ending what he called the “unwarranted incessant killing” of his people (the Gbagyi) by armed bandits to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2016.
It would be recalled that last year close to 400 citizens from across various communities in the zone were allegedly killed.
Umaru also decried what he described as “unprovoked military invasion” of Kpadna, Legbe and other surrounding communities in Bosso Local Government Area which led to the death of 22 people.
The lawmaker, who is also the chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary and Human Rights, argued that several livestock including cows were rustled by the assailants while women and girls were abducted and in most cases raped by the marauders.
Lamenting what his people had to go through, Umaru said the intruders, who capitalized on the adjourning forests which they use as their escape route, also burnt houses and other properties belonging to communities sharing borders with Kaduna State.
He gave the names of the communities badly affected to include; Kaure, Kusasun, Mwaignu, Sabon Gida, Kwaki, Ajata, Kushaka, Bagna, Bassa/Kukoki, Allawa in Shiroro and Rafi local government areas among others.
“During most of the attacks, security operatives always arrive the scene hours after the blood-letting had ended with the marauders safely in their abodes”, Umaru said and therefore called for more proactive measures to nip the menace in the bud this year.
“It is imperative to call on the state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, to as a matter of urgent, take immediate and more positive measures including directing the relocation of police SSS headquarters to the affected area to liberate our people”.
Umaru also called on the state government to make public the outcome of the Commission of Inquiry which investigated the remote and immediate causes of the bloody clash between the military and some villagers in Bosso Local Govern Area and also set up White Paper Committee to implement the report.
