Osun govt approves N150m grant for health scheme

The Osun State government is appealing to residents to take advantage of the Osun Health Insurance Scheme (O’HIS).

It explained that the scheme would give the people access to affordable and good healthcare services at a minimal cost across all parts of the state.

The Executive Secretary of Osun Social Health Insurance Scheme, Dr Adeniyi Oginni, made the plea while addressing reporters in Osogbo, the state capital.

He briefed journalists on Monday on the level of preparedness by the government for the take-off of the scheme.

Dr Oginni disclosed that the scheme can now commence with the release of take-off grant of N150 million to ensure effectiveness in health insurance operation in the state by the government.

“The grant would be used for the establishment of Osun Health Insurance Business and Zonal offices across the 68 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and the Local Council Development Authorities ( LCDAs),” he said.

The scheme, according to him, covers common ailments including malaria fever, minor injuries, reproductive health services, child delivery, caesarean section, and selected surgical operations.

The executive secretary urged residents to key into the scheme, saying the benefits are many.

He disclosed that the government has given approval for its three per cent contribution to public servants plan, in addition to the 1.5 per cent that was to be deducted from their basic salary to enable them to benefit from the scheme.

“The system would ensure that the cost of using the services does not put people at the risk of financial harm,” Oginni said.

The scheme was launched in Osogbo in April 2019, to protect families from the financial hardship of huge medical bills.
