The 5th session of the Osun House of Assembly passed 32 bills and 46 resolutions in four years, the Speaker of the House, Mr Najeem Salaam, said.
He made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Wednesday.
The speaker said that the success recorded by the assembly, in terms of number of bills passed, was due to the cooperation of the lawmakers.
He added that the number surpassed the 26 bills passed in the second assembly between 1999 and 2003 and the 29 bills passed by the third assembly between 2003 and 2007.
Salaam said the House also passed 21 bills between 2007 and 2011 in the fourth assembly.
The speaker, who was re-elected during the inauguration of the 6th assembly on June 2, said that the comparative analysis of the previous sessions did not diminish the potency of any session.
He, however, said that the 5th assembly marked the difference and described the development as historic.
On his plan for the 6th assembly, Salaam promised to ensure that members of the assembly maintained peace and harmonious working relationship with the executive.
According to him, the assembly will also facilitate a stakeholders’ summit, if the governor so permit, to discuss how the state can be self reliant in terms of revenue generation.
He then commended Gov. Rauf Aregbesola for providing the environment that enabled the lawmakers to operate without interference. (NAN)
