Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has replied activist, Okechukwu Nwanguma, over his protest letter on the continuous detention of the 21-year-old Gloria Okorie, the lady arrested and made to become the slave of operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Imo State.

After several protests by Nigerians, the police reluctantly issued a statement, confirming that she was in their custody but accused her of being a spy of the Eastern Security Network (ESN). They, however, failed to charge her to court for the said offence.

A court has ordered the police to release her from its custody or arraigned her in court. The police have ignored the two directives.

In a protest letter to Osinbajo, Nwanguma, who is also the executive director of Rule of Law Advocacy and Accountability Centre (RULAAC), urged the vice president to call the Nigeria police authorities to order by prevailing on them to release the young Okorie as ordered by the court.

The vice president’s office has now acknowledged the receipt of Nwanguma’s letter about the plight of Okorie and assured that he has forwarded his concern to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali.

Nigerians now await what action the vice president will take should the IGP ignore the matter.
