Oshoala, other celebs console Anthony Joshua after loss

Oshoala, DJ Cuppy and BBnaija’s Erica all sympathised with Anthony Joshua, urging him to put the fight behind him and move on

Nigerian celebrities have reached out to British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua after losing to Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk via split decision early on Sunday morning. 

The match, which took place at the King Abdullah Sports Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia saw Usyk retaining his IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO titles.

After the loss, some Nigerian celebrities took to social media to offer their support to the former world champion, who seemed hurt and didn’t take the defeat kindly.

One of those who reached out was African Women’s Footballer of the Year and Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala, who sympathised with the boxer and asserted he could have won the match through knockout. 

Oshoala wrote, “I felt AJ had like 2 occasions where he could’ve gone in for a KO but he was too tired. Omo na we wey no too understand the sport Dey analyze pass….. Anyway, we are coming back, NAIJA FOR LIFE STILL.”

Big Brother Naija star, Erica Nlwedim, also showed her support for the two-time heavyweight champion, telling him he is still a champion despite his loss. 

“Anthony Joshua you’re still a champion,” she said.  

Also lending her support was the daughter of billionaire businessman and popular Nigerian DJ, Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy. 

The Disc Jockey, who is a friend of Joshua and has always admired the boxer added, “So PROUD of Femi! WITH or WITHOUT belts, ALWAYS my CHAMP. Oh and before I forget, F*CK the HATERS!”

Other Nigerians and fans of the Nigerian-born British boxer also offered words of encouragement, with most of them urging him to put the defeat behind him and move on.
