Oregon 2022 offers Huge experience, development for young Team Nigeria, says Rosa Collins

Nigeria athletes currently participating at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, have gained a lot in experience and mental development to handle major high level competitions in future.

This disclosure was made by Member Federation and Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) 2nd Vice President, Rosa Collins, adding that majority of the young athletes in Oregon are competing in their first World Athletics Championships.

Collins in an interview said, though Nigeria has not won a medal so far, the determination and athletes desire to win laurels in the remaining events are very high.


“The young athletes in our team are completely determined and have gained huge experience necessary for their development.

In 100m men and women events some athletes made it to the semi-finals, in Shot Put men, we were in the finals, therefore, these positive strides doesn’t come easy, these young athletes having gained the experience here in US will unleash the hunger for laurels at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK later this month”

The former Africa and national triple jump champion said Team Nigeria athletes have also made courageous impact at the on-going Championships in Oregon in securing Clean bill of health to freely compete.

Collins still believe that medals would be won by Team Nigeria, hoping that patience should be applied.


“In Long jump women, 100m hurdle women events and relays are areas medal will come for Nigeria and called for prayers for the team’s success”
