Only treasury looters and their supporters oppose prudent financial management

Prudent management of public funds is a virtue, Peter Obi has argued, dismissing as false the stingy tag of him which he said was floated by treasury looters and their encouragers who oppose fiscal discipline with public funds so they can steal.

He spoke as a special guest on Human Rights Radio in Abuja, popularly called Berekete Radio, where he recounted examples of his frugal use of public funds, stressing corrupt people fight back when you block them by tagging you stingy.

Saving money is not in the Constitution of Nigeria “but my Presidency will change our sharing mentality to saving and production mentality,” he promised.

Obi said as much as he would not allow treasury looters to go scot-free, he would face the future because he would not want to close shop while pursuing thieves.

He described nepotism as huge corruption, especially when leaders pick unqualified relatives for jobs, contracts, and land allocations.

Obi disagreed with the idea he would change if he becomes President, saying money and power only bring out who someone really is.

The North is the new Nigerian gold and oil but it requires capable hands like him and his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed to unlock it, he added.

Obi explained “the poverty in the country can only be tackled through production and it’s only through it that crimes and criminalities can be reduced. Those bandits are factory workers who are doing nothing.”

Turning God’s grace into entitlement

The Biafran War ended 52 years ago and “I am a Nigerian and running for President as a Nigerian,” Obi said on his take on agitation for Biafra, per reporting by Leadership.

“If the President is to be given by whose turn it is, as an Igbo it’s my turn but I am in the race as a Nigerian wishing to be hired based on my track record, competence and capacity.

“Nigerian leaders have not shown enough compassion on the people and their plight by neglecting the people they govern.  They are annoying God by turning grace into entitlement.

“Democracy makes the ordinary people, the poor and disadvantaged, as the owners of the country.

“Ordinary people have a critical role to play in the selection process of who governs this country. They can only do that through the use of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
