Spokesman of the IPOB, Emma Powerful, in a statement on Wednesday, said the sit-at-home order did not emanate from the pro-Biafra group.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has debunked claims that it declared a one-week sit-at-home exercise across the South-East region.

Residents of the region have been apprehensive over the rumours of a weeklong sit-at-home, beginning from July 3 to July 10.

Promoters of the exercise said in a viral audio message that the sit-at-home protest tagged “#FreeNnamdiKanu” is geared towards forcing the Federal Government to release IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of States Services since he was re-arrested last year.

The promoters of the audio message vowed that there would be dire consequences for anyone who dared to step out on the said dates.

However, spokesman of the IPOB, Emma Powerful, in a statement on Wednesday, said the sit-at-home order did not emanate from the pro-Biafra group.

Emma Powerful said, “You should know those people declaring the fake sit-at-home and the criminal who is illegally destroying our land.

“I will issue an official press release against it two days to the date declared in the audio, but for now, the leadership of IPOB has asked me not to give it attention or attraction.”

IPOB had in 2021, initially declared every Monday a sit-at-home in the South-East, to protest the incarceration of its leader, but later said it had cancelled it. However, the people of the region have been observing it.
