One injured as police fire teargas at demonstrators in Abuja

The demonstrators had earlier gathered at the MKO Abiola Stadium before proceeding to the Eagle Square

A Nigerian participating in the ongoing nationwide protest reportedly got injured after police fired tear gas at demonstrators who gathered at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

As seen in a now-viral video posted by Galaxy TV, the protesters were seen scampering for safety following the incident.

TheNiche learnt the protesters were marching towards the Three-Arm Zone of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), when the incident occurred. 

Prior to this development, several news outlets had reported that protesters in the FCT gathered at the MKO Abiola Stadium very early in the morning to participate in the demonstration against hardship in the country.

Similarly, their counterparts in Port Harcourt, Rivers, Lagos, Sokoto and other states across Nigeria also trooped to the streets to demand for a better standard of living.

Meanwhile, another set of protesters blocked the highway leading in and out of Abuja, causing gridlock at the Suleja axis of the Abuja-Kaduna expressway in Niger State.

The blockade by the demonstrators which was on just a section of the road affected the flow of traffic, leaving thousands of travellers and commuters stranded.
