Omokri claims Atiku lost to Tinubu because he failed to pick Wike as running mate

Omokri argued that Wike would have won Rivers, Oyo, Abia, Enugu and Benue with the aid of the G-5 governors

Popular social media influencer and sociopolitical activist, Reno Omokri has explained why the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost the February 25 presidential election to the All Progressives Party (APC).

According to him, the biggest mistake PDP made during the 2023 presidential election was its failure to make the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, the vice presidential candidate of the party.

Speaking on his X handle, formerly Twitter, Omokri noted that the former Rivers State governor would have ensured victory for PDP in the race in Oyo, Abia, Rivers, Enugu, and Benue states with the aid of other G5 governors.

He went on to say the opposition party lost a lot of votes to the ruling party in key areas after denying Wike the ticket.

Speaking via his social media page, he tweeted: “The biggest mistake we made in the PDP during the #NigerianElections2023 was not giving Wike the vice presidential slot of our party. By how many votes did we lose to the APC?

“Less than two million. If we had a running mate like Wike, we would have gotten that collectively from Rivers, Oyo, Abia, Enugu, and Benue with the G-5. In politics, you do not do what you like to do.

“You do what you have to do. Under normal circumstances, an alpha personality like Wike would be too assertive to be a follower. I would not even support it if all things were equal.”

TheNiche reported after the presidential election that President Bola Tinubu of the APC defeated PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi to emerge as the winner.
