Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo made a case for his compatriot,  Ademola Lookman, after helping Atalanta to lift this year’s Europa League trophy.

According to him, the tricky Serie A winger merits the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award following his display on the night.

Lookman on Wednesday scored a hattrick as Atlanta FC defeated the hitherto unbeaten Bayern Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa cup final.

He netted a brace in the first half of the pulsating final before grabbing a hat trick in the second half to help the Italian side win their first major trophy.

Apart from aiding his team to win the cup, the 26-year-old also entered the history books as the first African to score a hat-trick in the final of a major European competition.

Prior to this , Lookman played a key role in Nigeria’s second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) earlier in the year.

The former Everton and Leicester City player scored three goals in seven outings at the competition.

Reacting to his heroics against Bayer Leverkusen, Omeruo took to his social media handle to call the attention of African football governing body, CAF, to the performance of his international teammate.

He wrote: ”@CAF_Online your Arica Player of the Year..@ALookman_ top player.”
