Nigerians Afrobeats singer, Stanley Omah Didia, better known as Omah Lay, has revealed that his 2020 incarceration in Uganda positively impacted his life and career.
TheNiche had early reported that Omah Lay and his colleague, Tems were arrested and subsequently detained in prison in Uganda for making an appearance at a concert held in the country at Speke Resort, Kampala, in 2020, despite COVID-19 social distancing regulations.
They eventually regained their freedom after spending three days in jail, when a judge granted them bail.

Recounting his ordeal in a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay stated that his time in jail changed his perspective on freedom.
He added that after the experience, his love for freedom increased, and he expressed it in every one of his songs.
Speaking during the chat, the ‘Soso’ crooner said, ” After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record… I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom.”
